It wasn't my cup of tea, but I have decided I just don't get on with Globe productions anymore. I don't know what it is about them that disagrees with me.Jacob Azariahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15683171443777486134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781475196023418414.post-65639333249652380712012-09-01T09:20:45.428+01:002012-09-01T09:20:45.428+01:00As I say, I like a "light" Hamlet in man...As I say, I like a "light" Hamlet in many ways but just based on the productions I've seen, I prefer Hamlet himself to set the tone of the humour - Ed Bennett's Hamlet dying was devastating because we'd spent the last three hours growing to love him 'cause he made us laugh and involved the audience in the joke. Benz doesn't actually interact much with the audience. I think last year was a bit closer to the kind of thing I'm talking about, partly because McGuire is rather a tiny man and made fun of his own height to set the tone.

I do think this is quite a good "primer" Hamlet that'd get you through the major points if you were unfamiliar with the play, but the focus on rushing through it has resulted in some subtlety being lost, and a bit more subtlety lost in the restaging.nick730https://www.blogger.com/profile/17790671846484940609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781475196023418414.post-9789430506964863332012-09-01T08:26:55.685+01:002012-09-01T08:26:55.685+01:00I didn't *dislike* it, but that's about it...I didn't *dislike* it, but that's about it. I was never sure if it was the "oh look, I'm mad I am" elements, or if it was the helicopter overhead distracting. But it felt a little "light" for me, given the nature of the ending.
