I kinda wish they had embellished her scenes a bit because they seemed to pass so quickly... and she made (for me) a filler character pose more questions than the play actually answers.Jacob Azariahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15683171443777486134noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781475196023418414.post-74574234803474601412012-07-13T23:57:13.478+01:002012-07-13T23:57:13.478+01:00Like I say it's not just that the exposition i...Like I say it's not just that the exposition is hard work in and of itself, but those speeches also introduce a helluva lot of characters, it's nice if we've seen what they look like before they suddenly all stumble onstage half an hour in, in the middle of their various dynamics and plots. Even when you know the play I find you then have to spend a while going "OK, so who's whose brother?" Especially when a character gets a sex-change, and the last two Tempests I've seen have sex-changed a different character. (All things being equal I think Antonio is the better character to turn into a woman, not just 'cause the name translates better but because the dynamic of the sister overthrowing the brother is interesting. But if you've got Kirsty Bushell in your ensemble I can see the logic of using her to bring some life to an otherwise rather fillerish character like Sebastian.)nick730https://www.blogger.com/profile/17790671846484940609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8781475196023418414.post-31809348908719261272012-07-12T22:09:08.138+01:002012-07-12T22:09:08.138+01:00"and Farr's production makes it a slog&qu..."and Farr's production makes it a slog"

Yeah, Farr's production didn't f*ck around. It put the text on a plate with some boiled carrots and shouted "EAT!".

I guess they were brave to run that bit of exposition straight through without any attempt to liven it up or illustrate it visually but like you say... it was a slog!Jacob Azariahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15683171443777486134noreply@blogger.com
